Hosted by\u00a0<em><a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/about-us\/\">Green Film Shooting <\/a><\/em> and\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2015\/05\/30\/sustainable-film-production-in-europe\/\">Cine-Regio Green<\/a> in collaboration with the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.italianfilmcommissions.it\/en\/\">Italian Film Commissions<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cinecitta.com\/IT\/it-it\/cms\/10\/luce-cinecitta.aspx\">Cinecitt\u00e0 Luce<\/a>, at this event various European experts from Germany, Great Britain, France, Italy and Spain exchanged their experience with sustainable Film\/TV production and green cinema. &quot;In our green network Cine-Regio Green the representatives from the various regions are presenting theior new projects and developments&quot;, explains Charlotte Applegren, General Scretaty Cine-Regio. &quot;We are delighted that the number of members keeps growing in our green subgroup.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<br \/>\nLuca Ferrario, Project Manager, <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2015\/10\/19\/going-green-is-a-matter-of-survival\/\">Trentino Film Fund<\/a>, presented the brand new initiative T- Green Film that will be launched in September. The\u00a0Trentino Film Fund is launching a new tool to promote environmental sustainability in the film industry. Production companies shooting films or TV series in Trentino can adopt the T- Green Film rating system that will guide them in all the stages of their work towards more sustainability. The film fund will give the productions financial incentives for their green actions. \u201cThe companies can choose during the application phase how many green points they intend to obtain\u201d, explained Luca Ferrario.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/05\/set_in_Val_di_Fassa-1.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1940 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2016\/05\/set_in_Val_di_Fassa-1.jpg\" alt=\"set_in_Val_di_Fassa-1\" width=\"270\" height=\"203\" \/><\/a>The green measures include energy and transport, selection of materials as well as catering. The actions will be monitored by the environmental protection agency, APPA (Agenzia Provinciale per la Protezione dell\u2019Ambiente) in the different stages of production. If the scheme\u2019s criterias are fulfilled, the Trentino Film Fund will reward the company with an incentive.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWhat Trentino is doing is very unique in Italy\u201d, commented Nevina Satta. \u201cThey are pushing existing institutions to work together with their film fund to put together the certification. That is a great best practice. It is the first time that something like this has been done for the audiovisual industry. It is a big step forward for the overall perception of the public administration in the territories.\u201d In Italy, sustainability also has tradition since tourism is an important industry for the whole country. This fund already backed about forty short films and web series. pilots as well as more than twenty short films. Furthermore, there is a film training program for kids. \u201cWe teach them to be green filmmakers\u201d, said Nevina Satta.<br \/>\nTools and training for green filmmaking is also provided by the French consortium <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2016\/02\/14\/ecologically-friendly-alternatives\/\">Ecoprod <\/a>that developed a new version of the carbon calculator Carbon Clap.\u201dWe are helping film crews to implement the green practices\u201d, emphasized Joanna Gallardo, Adviser, Ecoprod. Furthermore, the organization launched the Ecoprod Charter. We brought all kind of audiovisual companies together. We also want to involve the studios, post production companies and suppliers to take green actions.\u201d In France, these kind of measures are supported by a CNC program, which has a yearly budget of \u20ac 6m to support TV and feature film service providers.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Meanwhile the <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2016\/02\/15\/the-green-gate-to-the-world\/\">Filmf\u00f6rderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein<\/a> (FFHSH) is greening the Film\/ TV industry across in Germany. \u201cWe already gave out about 70 Green Shooting Cards\u201d, reported Christiane Dopp from Film Commission Hamburg. The organization also started a collaboration with the local film school in order to implement green training for upcoming filmmakers. This approach will also be followed by the<a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2014\/02\/05\/an-important-incentive\/\"> VAF <\/a>in Belgium.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>I\u2019s all about training in Great Britain. BAFTA\u2019s Carbon Literacy training has been adapted by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ffilmcymruwales.com\/\">Ffilm Cymru Wales<\/a><cite class=\"_Rm\"><\/cite>, as CEO Pauline Burt reported. \u201cWe gotta beat carbon. The thirty hectare square feet studio lot houses twelve sound stages. \u201cSince three years, our studio lot is carbon neutral\u201d, Ina Hoessler pointed out. \u201cWe managed to do that in two steps. We changed our heating system to geothermal energy heating. The second step was to switch to renewable energy, especially water power. Produced by the Paris-based company Futurikon, the animated insects were entirely designed and animated in the studio, while the filmmaking duo Thomas Szabo and H\u00e9l\u00e8ne Giraud filmed the background shots in the Mercantour National Park in the Southern French region of <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2014\/02\/05\/sustainability-reloaded\/\">Provence-Alps-Cote d\u2019Azur <\/a>(PACA).<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The entire film crew was accommodated in nearby lodgings, so everyone could walk or bike to the set. \u201cAll of our crew members understood that this is important because we wanted to act responsible in this environment\u201d, stressed French Producer Myle\u0300ne Ollivier. The flowing streams and natural greenery were filmed with available light whenever possible. The gaffers simply used reflectors instead of light. A solar-powered camper, serving as production hub, supplied a low-voltage power generator. \u201cFor the production of <em>Minuscule 2<\/em> we will make progress in this field.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Environmental-friendly solutions can also offer financial possibilities for producers. \u201cThe sustainable economy is turning from green to blue\u201d, underlined Nevina Satta. \u201cThis is becoming a big potential source of investment. Film theatres that are showing eco-conscious films will be more believable for the audience if the cinema itself is operated in a sustainable way. This includes to power cinemas with renewable energy, to conduct an energy audit but also to offer sustainable concession products and to implement waste management. All these measures are included in the green label of quality that<em> Green Film Shooting<\/em> developed and presented in the 2016 magazine edition. The green seal will be awarded the cinemas who are following the best practices.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>Green cinema was also a key topic at the general assembly of the International Confederation of Art Cinemas (CICAE) in Cannes. The board gave the greenlight to develop tools for the implementation of green actions in cinemas. This includes a green handbook for cinemas as well as a green training session for upcoming theatre managers at CICAE\u2019s workshop week that is taking place during the Venice film festival. Furthermore, the green cinema seal will be further developed in collaboration with Green Film Shooting.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSustainability is getting more important for all of us\u201d, stated German exhibitor Christian Br\u00e4uer, President AG Kino and CICAE board member. By powering the movie theatre with four screening rooms by electricity generated of fossil fuels, the cinema would have left a carbon footprint of 2,500 tons CO2 per year. The exhibitor decided to switch to renewable energy. \u201cIt is important to green the film production but also the cinemas at the end of the value channel of films should be part of it\u201d, declared Pedro Barbadillo. \u201cThe conditions in the varies countries are very different\u201d, added Christian Br\u00e4uer. \u201cWe have to find convincing solutions so that more and more cinemas will join us.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In this respect, it is a similar situation as in production. It is crucial to raise awareness and to provide tools and training for the industry members.
