The efforts made by <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2018\/02\/28\/the-green-declaration\/\">Filmf\u00f6rderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein<\/a> (FFHSH), which began in 2012 with the creation of the <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2013\/02\/01\/a-necessity-not-a-nicety\/\">Green Shooting Card<\/a> as the first eco label for green film production in Europe, are coming to fruition. Meanwhile, not only film funds but also some broadcasters are planning green strategies. At <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2017\/03\/22\/energy-is-the-key\/\">WDR<\/a>, a working group from the Broadcast Development Committee is analyzing the way work is being done as well as production processes in order to enhance eco-friendly aspects, such as the reduction of carbon emissions, environmen- tal protection, and energy-saving measures. After producing its first sustainable series and shows, Sky, as a production partner of the successful <em>Babylon Berlin<\/em> series, persuaded the other partners to go green in Season 3.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cGreen production keeps gradually gaining ground\u201d, says Christiane Dopp, who initiated the eco label at the Hamburg Film Commission in 2012. \u201cWe\u2019re working with other institutions on a Green Shooting Card so that it can be awarded throughout Germany in the future.\u201d Among the approximately 140 productions bearing a green label is the Berlinale competition film <em>Systemsprenger<\/em> by Nora Fingscheidt, for which Kineo Filmproduktion and Weydemann Bros. followed best practices. \u201cOn a low-budget picture, it\u2019s also possible to save resources and work cost-effectively\u201d, says the producer Jonas Weydemann.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/FatihAkin_JonasDassler_bombero-int_WarnerBros_BorisLaewen-Kopie.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-4116\" src=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/FatihAkin_JonasDassler_bombero-int_WarnerBros_BorisLaewen-Kopie-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/FatihAkin_JonasDassler_bombero-int_WarnerBros_BorisLaewen-Kopie-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/FatihAkin_JonasDassler_bombero-int_WarnerBros_BorisLaewen-Kopie-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/FatihAkin_JonasDassler_bombero-int_WarnerBros_BorisLaewen-Kopie-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/3\/2019\/02\/FatihAkin_JonasDassler_bombero-int_WarnerBros_BorisLaewen-Kopie-630x420.jpg 630w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>Another Golden Bear contender from Hamburg is Fatih Akin\u2019s horror movie,<em> The Golden Glove.<\/em> During the shoot, half of the crew biked to the set. By creating four sets at one location, Production Designer Christian Strang followed a green approach: locally-sourced lumber, screws instead of nails, avoidance of environment hazardous paints and varnishes, recycling materials after wrapping production as well as making short transportation hauls. This feature film was the debut effort of Director Lena Knauss, an alumna of the <a href=\"http:\/\/greenfilmshooting.net\/blog\/en\/2018\/05\/26\/five-years-green-cooperation\/\">Hamburg Media School<\/a> (HMS). \u201cIt\u2019s paying off because we\u2019ve been intro- ducing film students to sustainable production ever since 2013\u201d, says Dopp. \u201cMeanwhile,this educational model has been adapted by other European countries.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>In order to produce films more sustainably, the technical infrastructure has to include<br \/>\nenvironmentally-friendly equipment, which in turn must be driven by demand. Film funds and broadcasters can set the course for green initiatives with incentives, restrictions, and awards. Apart from the director and producer, it\u2019s crucial for any production to have the actors support green shooting efforts. The Hamburg-based Director Lars Jessen, who is always straight-forward in implementing green measures, wants to bring talent agencies on board, too.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s my goal to convince actors, especially stars, to join us in this effort\u201d, Jessen says. \u201cA great model is the Swedish initiative called \u2018Flygskam\u2019. Swedish celebrities are now avoiding taking planes because they pollute the environment\u201d.
