The 14th edition of the Rome Film Fest started the "Go Plastic Free” initiative to limit the use of plastic bottle. All badge holders received reusable water bottles that could be refilled by water dispensers in the food areas. The initiative was supported by Marevivo and Aquachiara, which is specialized in ultra-filtration technologies for the treatment of drinking water. Thanks to this project, about 100,000 plastic bottles were saved during the Rome Film Fest. In Italy, every year ten billion plastic bottles are used and about two billion are dispersed in the environment.

The links between film, environmental concerns and sustainability were subject at The Cinedays of Rome City of Film. Two panel discussions brought together experts, artists, Creative Cities Network representatives, government and cultural institutions as well as film representatives. The speakers discussed concrete policies can be undertaken by the film industry to take action on sustainability and climate change. The second panel discussion, that included speakers from Istituto Luce Cinecittà, Rai Cinema and Casa del Cinema;was about the role of the cinema, which can raise awareness of the need to protect our planet.

Meanwhile, the MIA market started various measures to go green. “As one of the very first markets in Europe, the MIA has been certified by ISO 20121, which is a certification of sustainability from an environmental, economic and social point of view”, stresses Lucia Milazzotto, Director of MIA. “We have implemented several activities in order not only to go green, but also to be sustainable in terms of economics.” The actions that were taken included to offer hotels in walking distance, menus with local or seasonal products as well as to provide drinking fountains and donate left-over food.

Furthermore, the Industry Guide was printed on PEFC certified paper, while the number of printed books were reduced by forty percent. The market badges were made of eco-compatible material and all attendees received reusable water bottles and recycled cotton bags.
