A new film festival for sustainable living

Dieter Kosslick, longtime director of the Berlin International Film Festival, launches Green Visions Potsdam a new film festival for sustainable living, that takes place from May 30 to June 2, 2024. The public film festival in Potsdam is based on the three pillars of film, science and a sustainability market. The program features national and international productions on topics such as climate protection, sustainability, energy, agriculture and nutrition. After the film screenings, the audience can take part in discussions with scientists, researchers and filmmakers and then enjoy culinary delights at the "Market for Sustainable Living" where they can discover solutions and alternatives for their everyday lives.

„"What we need above all in the face of the climate crisis are solutions and new forums for encounters“,says Festival Director Dieter Kosslick. „Green Visions Potsdam wants to be such a forum that conveys important knowledge and confidence.“ The unique cultural and scientific event in the Brandenburg state capital wants to unite the city’s great strengths – film, knowledge, climate and the joy of dialog. The festival center is the Filmmuseum Potsdam, where all film screenings with scientific discussions will take place. The plaza in front of the Film Museum in the heart of Potsdam will be the venue for the "Market for Sustainable Living".

A first program highlight is the German premiere of Food, Inc. 2, the sequel to the worldwide award-winning documentary Food, Inc, which was nominated for an Oscar® in 2008. In their new documentary, he filmmakers Robert Kenner and Melissa Robledo once again take viewers into the abysses of the food industry. In an average US-American supermarket are about 50,000 products offered on the shelves but the variety is not as huge as it may seem. Most of the industrial produced food products are mainly made of corn or soy, which are highly subsidized.

In Food, Inc. 2, the filmmakers reunite with bestselling investigative authors Michael Pollan (The Omnivore’s Dilemma) and Eric Schlosser (Fast Food Nation) to take a fresh look at our efficient yet highly vulnerable food system. The German premiere of Food, Inc. 2 will be celebrated  on May 31, 2024.
