Beyond the Green Shooting Card

At the 26 the edition of the Independent Film Festival in Barcelona a one-day symposium for the industry is dedicated to green film production and cinema. The event Beyond the Green Shooting Card aims to explore what measures the filmmaking and audiovisual industry might take to reduce its ecological footprint. Therefore, the impact of different production processes and screening options, including cinemas and festivals as well as the institutions needs to be considered. The criterias for creating sustainable filmmaking will be analyzed and examined what steps should be taken in order to be coherent with the values and messages that are often featured in films. The event is addressed to producers, performers, filmmakers, programmers, critics, buyers, exhibitors, teachers, curators, researchers, amd cultural managers.

 

The symposium will kick off with a presentation by Joana Moll on the ecological impact of the information and communication industry. Birgit Heidsiek, Publisher of Green Film Shooting and author of The Green Cinema Handbook, will give an overview of requirements and solutions for the film industry from preproduction to exhibition. The presentation will include a skype talk with Luca Ferrario, Project Manager of the Trentino Film Fund and Film Commision as well as Pedro Barbadillo, Managing Director of the Mallorca Film Fund and Film Commission.

 

Jaime Alejandre, Deputy Director General for Promotion and International Relations at the Instituto de la Cinematografía y de las Artes Audiovisuales (ICAA), will provide an analysis of criteria for sustainable filmmaking in Spain. The symposium will be rounded up with panel discussion on strategies and experiences with best practice examples. Moderated by Birgit Heidsiek, the speakers of the panel discussion are Carlota Guerrero, Head of the Catalunya Film Commission, Jaime Alejandre, Eva Morsch, Coordinator of programming at the Toulouse Cinelatino Festival, Suzanne Harle, Founder of the distribution company Green Planet Films, Valérie Delpierre, Founder of the independent production company Inicia Films as well as President of the Spanish Association of Documentary Producers PRO-DOCS and Juan Palacios, who graduated in environmental sciences and audiovisual communication.

 

The Beyond the Green Shooting Card symposium takes place at the Barcelona Contemporary Culture Centre (CCCB) on November 15 from 9.45 am to 1.45 pm.
