Afro Berlin: Green Film Shooting panel @EFM

Green Film Shooting will takes the stage at AfroBerlin  A partnership with the Yanibes Foundation AfroBerlin, the African and African diaspora program of the European Film Market at the Berlinale which is set to captivate audiences with its vibrant showcas at Berliner  Freiheit. This year’s eventbrings a special spotlight on Green Shooting, a pivotal initiative aimed at promoting sustainability within the film industry. Organized by the Yanibes Foundation, AfroBerlin2025 promises to blend eco-conscious filmmaking with a dedication to cultural diversity and inclusion.

 

At the panel discussion Lights, Camera, Action… and Sustainability! More than greenwashing… Birgit Heidsiek, Founder, European Center for Sustainability in the Media World,, wlll discuss with the cinematographers Daniel Bezares and Lilis Soares eco-friendly approaches that can be applied to film productions. The award-winning Swedish / Latinx cinematographer Daniel S. Bezares studied at the Danish Film School and started as first assistant camera and gaffer before he worked his way up to become a director of photography.

 

Lílis Soares is a award-winnig cinematographer from Brazilian who studied at the Institut International de l’Image et du Son in France, and Radio & TV at UFRJ in Brazil. As the main cinematographer on TV series for Amazon and Disney she worked in various countries such as s Brazil, France, Russia, Switzerland, and Republic of Congo. The panel discussion will be moderated by the American writer/producecer Kylie Figueroa

 

At AfroBerlin, GreenFilm Shooting’s involvement through a panel discussion on Sustainability in film, will underscore the importance of integrating sustainable practices into the creative processes. During the panel, speakers will explore existing practices in African and Caribbean productions which are characterized by their efficient use of environmentally conscious methods and little energy to produce content. And explain what credits or support can be gained.

 

AfroBerlin is orgaized by The Yanibes Foundation,  a Paris-based non-profit organization, that is edicated to fostering diversity, inclusion, and cultural exchange. The foundation has a rich history of organizing impactful events such as AfroCannes and the Yanibes Mentorship Program.  Through its leadership, the Yanibes Foundation ensures that AfroBerlin is not only a celebration of African heritage but also a platform for meaningful dialogue and collaboration. This year, the foundation has curated a series of panel discussions, that take place from February 16-18, 2025 atB Berliner Freiheit , which is located at Potsdamer Platz.

 

The panel discussion Lights, Camera, Action… and Sustainability! More than greenwashing… takes place on Monday , February 17 , 2025, from 9 to 9.35 am. The event can be accessed for free upon registration.
