Sustainable Animation Lab

At Animator Festival in Posen, filmmakers are invited to attend the Green Animation Lab, that is hosted by Estrada Poznańska and Animator Festival. The one-day workshop takes place at the Stary Brower, a culutural and commercial center in a former brewery. The event kicks off with an introduction session by the Polish Sustainability Manager Bartosz Bretes who will point out why climate action in film matters.  Sustainability Advisor Valentína Hučková will present the newly launched ANiMPACT sustainability standards, which were initiated by EcoprodGreen Film, and CineRegio.

In Poland there are also first steps taken towards sustainability in animation. Patryk Drzewiecki, Director of the ETER International Anima Festival, Producer, and Coordinator of the Łódź Film Fund, will speak about the challenges. A best practice example will be presented by Film Producer, Composer, and Sustainability coordinator Przemysław Pilarczyk, who is also a lecturer at the Łódź Film School.

Moreover, the Green Animation Lab will cover tools and ethics. Green Film Shooting expert Birgit Heidsiek, gives an insight into emission-reducing workflows, ethical software, and resilience. Instead of being dependent from big U.S. tech companies, filmmakers can use free, open-source software for animated films. Technical infrastructure and software play a major role in animation. The choice of digital tools and programs also has an impact on energy consumption. The workshop will be concluded with work sessions of the participants.

Green animation is also on the agenda at the following Animator festival day. At the panel discussion "Animation and Climate Responsibility: Whose Story Is It?" Animator Festival representative Alicja Hafke will discuss with the sustainability experts Birgit Heidsiek and Valentína Hučková what responsibilities can animation makers can take on. The discussion will be moderated by Bartosz Bretes from Film dla Klimatu.

The session takes place at Stary Browar,  Słodownia, 3nd floorul. Półwiejska 42, Poznań, on July 7, 2026, 14 – 15.  Admission to this event is free to all and does not require prior registration.
