Eco Assistant on set wanted

The New York-based environmental consulting company Earth Angel is looking for an Eco Assistant who will be the production’s go-to on-set sustainability representative. Together with the Eco Supervisor, they make up the team that is responsible for both monitoring and reducing the show’s carbon footprint. “The key to a successful sustainability campaign on set is having a physical presence to educate crew and assist with the everyday practicalities of running an eco-friendly set”, says Emellie O’Brien, Earth Angel founder and Eco Supervisor.

Since its launch, the East Coast company has diverted over 2,500 tons of on-set waste from landfills, donated excess materials to over a dozen local NYC charities, and continuously strives toward more sustainable film and television practices every day. Earth Angel worked on sustainable produced movies such as Darren Aronofsky’s Noah, Sony’s The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Columbia Pictures’ remake of Annie, as well as Disney’s Queen of Katwe.

“We have a great time, but we also work hard”, emphasizes Emellie O’Brien. Becoming an Earth Angel means often long days and sometimes crazy hours. “You’ll definitely have to do a bit of heavy lifting and rubbish sorting. It’s not for everyone, but if you’re passionate about production and sustainability, it may well be one of the most fulfilling jobs for you!”

The requirements of an Eco Assistant include basic recycling/composting knowledge, basic set knowledge, to feel comfortable with manual labor, to have passion for the environment and a friendly, positive attitude.
