Green Film Production 2.0@Berlinale

Green Film Production 2.0: Beyond reusable coffee cups is the topic of the Green Film Shooting panel discussion at the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety on the occasion of the Berlin International Film Festival, where international representatives of film funds and producers discuss approaches, requirement as well as the implementation of more environmentally-friendly film productions.

 

Prominent speakers at the event, which will be opened by State Secretary Jochen Flasbarth, include documentary Producer/ Director Jan Haft as well as Director, Actor and Environmentalist Hannes Jaenicke  who gives the keynote speech. At The Green Framework panel, participants will discuss the general framework of environmentally-friendly film production and compare different approaches in order to determine what serves the environment best.

 

In this context, it is crucial not only to talk about costs but also what works best for co-productions. Speakers of  The Green Framework discussion include Peter Dinges, Chairman of the German Federal Film Board (FFA), Lucia Recalde, Head of Unit, Creative Europe MEDIA, Helge Albers, CEO Filmförderung Hamburg Schleswig-Holstein (FFHSH), Nevina Satta, CEO Sardegna Film Commission and Board Member CineRegio as well as John Gormley, former Minister for the Environment in Ireland and Chairperson Screen Producers Ireland.

 

At the Sustainability at Work panel, producers will discuss the obstacles that make green production more difficult. Furthermore, it will be explored which green actions have already been taken beyond the implementation of reusable bottles, coffee cups, car sharing, and compliance with waste management regulations. The participants of the discussion include Karsten Stöter, German Film Producers Association, Latvian Producer Antra Cilinska from Jura Podnieka Studija in Riga, Michael Imboden from Swiss production company Triluna Film as Emellie O’Brien, CEO of New York-based eco consultant company Earth Angel as well as Niels Maier, Gaffer and CEO of the Cologne-based film equipment rental house Maier Bros.

 

The closing speech will be given by Dr. Ulf Jaeckel, Head of Division, Sustainable Consumer Protection Policy, Product-Related Environmental Protection at BMU. The event is moderated by Green Film Shooting Publisher Birgit Heidsiek, who‘s European Centre for Sustainability in the Media World is also a host together with the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, and Nuclear Safety, and the Heinz Sielmann Foundation in cooperation with the Federal Government Commissioner for Culture and the Media.
