Eco Hub premiere in Cannes

Green tips, tools, trends, and training initiatives are being spotlighted at the Eco Hub at the Marché du Film in Cannes, which is hosted by Greenigma and Green Film Shooting in collaboration with Ecoprod, Green Toolkit, Green Film, and Baltic Green Film. Located in the heart of the film market at the Riviera, the Eco Hub serves as an umbrella booth for more than forty green initiatives and organizations from all around the world. In order to make this information easily accessible, an over-sized global map will feature locations where sustainability professionals may be found.

“Our approach is to present a showcase of sustainability strategies, programs, and practices from different countries and continents”, emphasizes Laila Lala, Founder of Greenigma, who was encouraged to launch the Eco Hub because of the great interest the Greenigma stand keeps arousing at the European Film Market (EFM) in Berlin. “For the first time, we will provide a meeting and mingling location in Cannes that offers a broad bandwidth of networking opportunities for the industry.”

Eco Hub will present a series of green talks, whose topics range from education and training, procurement, planning, and management to calculating carbon footprints and certifications. The impact of AI will also be on the agenda as well as green animation, post-production, and sustainability requirements for funding applications.

“The Eco Talks are the perfect format to dive a bit deeper into the various topics”, says Birgit Heidsiek, Founder and CEO of Green Film Shooting, which has hosted a series of Sustainability First panel discussions at the Majestic Hotel in Cannes for many years. “By now, many film industry reps are aware of the challenges, and they need specific solutions.”

Eco Hub reflects a collective international effort to promote and accelerate environmental responsibility in the film industry across borders. “Building on previous green initiatives at the festival, such as the Ecoprod Award and the Impact conferences at the Film Market, Eco Hub is emerging at a time when the accelerating climate crisis demands urgent action, and when the industry must recognize and embrace its crucial role in shaping a more sustainable future”, state Pervenche Beurier and Alissa Aubenque from Ecoprod.

Eco Hub centralizes a meeting space for all those who are committed to fostering sustainable practices in the film and audiovisual sectors. “For us as at Green Toolkit, Eco Hub is a great opportunity to reconnect with long-time allies”, emphasizes Roman Russo, Founder and CEO of Green Toolkit, who partners with Green Spark Group from Canada and Green Eyes Production from Hungary. “This kind of exchange drives meaningful change.”

Combining expertise from different countries and consulting services as well as tools and resources, the united partners are creating a dynamic, complementary ecosystem open to all professionals attending the Film Market.  Throughout the Marché du Film, film professionals will have the opportunity to meet key players from all over the world, exchange ideas, and attend a series of Eco Talks and informal gatherings dedicated to driving environmental action in the film industry.

The Eco Hub is located at the Riviera # D8.   The Eco Talks will be held May 17–19, 2025, from 2:00 p.m. to 5.30 p.m. Please find the full program here.
