CSR+ bonus in France

The national French film fund Centre National du Cinéma et de l’Image Animée (CNC) will provide a financial incentive for sustainable film and media productions. As French Minister of Culture Rachida Dati announced at the 78th Cannes Film Festival, professionals who commit to produce films and audio-visual works in a sustainable and responsible manner, will receive an CSR+ bonus. Starting in 2026, the CSR+ bonus is designed to encourage producers of live-action feature films that meet certain commitments of the AFNOR guidelines for more responsible production.

The AFNOR guidelines for responsible film, audiovisual and advertising production are an initiative of the CNC and the French Ministry of Culture’s Directorate General for Media and Cultural Industries (DGMIC), with the support of AFNOR. The French association consists of more than 130 professionals, among them are representatives of film, audio-visual and advertising production unions, employers and employees as well as experts in the field. In collaboration with industry stakeholders the national standardization body AFNOR developed a voluntary standard for responsible production.

The CSR+ bonus is part of the Action plan, that was launched by the CNC in 2022. The aim is to encourage environmentally responsible filmmaking by offering financial incentives, publishing green production guidelines, and supporting training programs. Film and audio-visual productions that comply with the requirements will be awarded automatically a grant of 28,000 euros.

Film and audio-visual productions that comply with level 2 of the AFNOR guidelines for responsible film, audiovisual and advertising production will receive the incentive after the verification by an independent certifying body. The AFNOR spec framework will become the benchmark for the CSR+ bonus.
